Independent Component 1 Plan Approval.!

For my Independent Component, I plan on volunteering at the San Dimas Community Hopsital. I will be volunteering for two hours a week as of right now. Throughout the year I will try to volunteer more.

Since it is volunteering I will just record when I volunteer and for how long. I will be able to volunteer for at least 30 hours, if not more.

My focus is in the medical field; therefore, working in a hospital environment will give me basic knowledge of what to expect. The more time I get to spend in that environment, it will help me choose if that is what I want to stick with as a possible career choice.

Eq.?

Q: What is your EQ?
A: What is most important to becoming a successful physician?

Q: Define the words in your EQ to make sure we are on the same page regarding what your EQ means.
A: successful = to satisfy your patient | physician = a health care provider who practices the profession of medicine, which is concerned with promoting, maintaining or restoring human health through the study, diagnosis, and treatment of disease, injury and other physical and mental impairments

Q: What are some possible answers to your EQ so far?
A: 1. Be comfortable in your environment.
    2. Enjoy your career! To have a career in the medical field you have to do it for because you have a passion for it, not just for the money.
    3. Be well educated! A physician will have gone through many years of schooling.
    4. Be comfortable with people of all ages, sizes, levels of education, and cultures.
    5. Know that you will continue to learn and you will have to reference back ones in a while.

Q: What has been your most important source and why?  Be specific.  If it is a person, name them and what they do, if it is an article, book or video, name the title and author.
A: My first interview thus far has been my most important source, Dr. Ferras. My doctor gave me a basic foundation of what to expect for my future in the medical field. She also mentioned that I should have a basic knowledge of the terminology that is used on a daily basis in the medical work environment. Another piece of information that she gave me, which I found very helpful, is that you see everything that happens from birth to death; STDs, birth, child development, etc.

Second Interview Questions.?

Here are several questions that I will be asking for service learning:

1. What/whom motivated/encouraged you to ge this far in your profession?

2. If you could have known something prior to focusing in the medical field, what would it of been?

3. What is the biggest mistake people make when they begin to focus on the medical field?

4. What did you major in?

5. How long have you been working here? If, you could change one thing about your experience here what would it be?

They are broad questions, but depending on where I do my service learning they will then become more specific.
