It has allowed me to realize that it is something I would look into in the near future.
Volunteering at the San Dimas Community Hospital has allowed me to gain experience of working in a medical environment.

Interpretive

From my experience with working in the front desk at the San Dimas Community Hospital I was able to become more comfortable in uncomfortable/unfamiliar scenarios.

Applied

By volunteering at the hospital I got more of a feel of being in a medical environment. An obstetrician will be put in many uncomfortable/unfamiliar scenarios and they should be able to work through it.

Independent Component 2

Literal
(a) I, Karen Uribe, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.
(b) At San Dimas Community Hospital, I have volunteered for 30 hours at the front desk. On my Service Learning Log it provides the times and dates.
Interpretive
At the front desk, I was able to direct patients and visitors into the right direction of the hospital. I have been getting a feel for what it is like to work in a medical environment.
Applied
While volunteering I do encounter several different scenarios with various patients and visitors. Volunteering there I now know what paper work a pregnant woman must fill out, what information to provide and the process for being welcomed into a hospital.

Helping 2013!

Who did you interview: Rachel Wampler
What day: April 16th, 2012

(1) What ideas do you have for your senior project and why?
She had a few options:
a: Teaching Chemistry because she loves Pang's class.
b: Graphic Design because of her involvement in yearbook
c: Drama because she is in the Drama Club and is involved in church as well.
d: Some medical interest because her mom is a doctor so she would have connections.

These are all distinct and interesting topics but go with one that interests you the most because it's your focus throughout the year.

(2) What do you plan to do to complete the 10 hours of service learning (working with an expert) which is due prior to senior year starting? Note: They also have to complete the 50 hours during the school year.

She plans on doing more than the required ten hours for her top three choices to see which one she wants to pick. Here are her options:
a: Working with her boyfriend's dad in graphic design
b: TA for an old chemistry teacher during the summer
c: take a drama class during the summer at her church

If you have time I'd recommend that you do take time over the summer and do service learning so you can pick your topic and still be excited about it. These are all great topics but it's about what really interests you.

(3) What do you hope to see or expect to see when watching the class of 2012 present their two hour presentations?

She didn't know what to expect but hopes that they aren't boring. She is excited about participating and being part of the presentations. She is looking forward to watching presentations of her possible topics.
I suggested that she look into some drama, medical, and graphic design presentations.
(4) What questions do they have about senior project? What additional recommendations would you give the 2013 student about senior project? Be specific and note what you told them.
She did not have any additional questions. I just let her know to prepare for senior year and the senior project. It would be very helpful if she decided her topic during the summer so she could find a place to do service learning as soon as possible.
